The school day starts at Union Cross at 8:10am and ends at 2:40pm.  Students may enter classrooms at 7:40am. Students must be picked up by 3:00pm.

Dismissal Transportation Changes

Please send a note signed by a parent or guardian to your child's teacher stating how you want your child to leave school, if it is different from their normal transportation. If an unexpected situation arises, you must email/Dojo the teacher and call the school so the teacher can be notified to check their email. 

Tardies

Tardies and early dismissals hinder your own child's learning and interrupt the entire class. All tardies and early dismissals should be avoided and will become part of your child's attendance profile.  Each time a child arrives late or leaves early, the education of every child is interrupted. (NC Law G.S. 115c-378, State Board Policy No. 10, WS/FC Policy 6112).  WS/FC School's AR5110 and Policy 6112 will be followed to monitor/reduce tardies and early dismissals.

 Early Dismissals

If a parent needs to pick up his/her child from school during the school day, the parent needs to come to the school office before 2:00pm.  We will not call a child out of class to leave after 2:00pm. When signing out your child before 2:00pm, a parent must come to the office. After a parent has signed their child in our Ident-a-kid system, we will call for the student. We are not allowed to release your child to anyone other than parents or guardians unless they are on your contact list.   If you have someone that is not on the contact list picking up your child, please send a note to your child's teacher in the morning. The teacher will send the note to the office, so the office staff are informed also.  

Car Riders

Morning:

• All car riders (K-5) are to be dropped off in the morning in the front parking lot. Please do not drop your child off in other areas. 

Afternoon:

• K-2 afternoon car riders will be dismissed in front parking lot of the school.

• 3-5 afternoon car riders will be dismissed to the back parking lot. 

• Every day you need to display your car rider tag on your rearview mirror. 

• If you do not have a placard, please ask your child's teacher or the main office and we will send one home with your child. 

ALL Visitors on Union Cross campus:

WSFCS has implemented a visitor management system called Ident-A-Kid across the district. Ident-A-Kid is a trusted company that for over 30 years has continued to be a leader in child and school safety programs. This system includes custom software on a PC kiosk at our front offices. This easy-to-use system will scan multiple forms of visitor ID, take each visitor’s photo and print him or her a badge.

When you visit our school, please go to the visitor PC kiosk, click on the appropriate badge option, and scan your ID. Please wear the badge that is printed for you at all times while in the school. When you leave, simply click the Check Out button and enter the Label ID printed on your badge. If you need assistance with this system, please feel free to ask anyone in the office. By following this check-in procedure, we are able to verify and register all visitors that come onto our campus, perform sexual offender background checks, check for custody issues and have detailed reports of all this activity logged through the system. These simple actions help improve the overall safety of schools in our district. Thank you for your help in making our school a safer place for your children.
